About the Missouria (Niutachi)

The Missouria tribal group who settled the region we know as Missouri called itself the Niutachi. The name breaks into three parts: "Ni" (water), "ut a" (coming together), and "chi" (to dwell) - together meaning "People of the River Mouth."
